India's Jaishankar on BRICS: "Because You Won’t Let Us Into the G7 Club"
"Because there was another club, it was called the G7 and you wouldn't let anybody else into that club, so we said we'd go and form our own club. As it started, it gained a life of its own over the period of time. Others saw value in it as well," said Jaishankar.

India's Jaishankar on BRICS: "Because You Won’t Let Us Into the G7 Club"
In a pointed statement underscoring India's evolving geopolitical strategy, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the rationale behind India's growing involvement with BRICS. When asked why India continues to strengthen ties with the BRICS grouping, Jaishankar responded, "Because you won’t let us into the G7 club," signaling the challenges that emerging economies face in gaining entry to elite global platforms like the G7.
The Group of Seven (G7) consists of major advanced economies, predominantly from the West, and India’s absence from the bloc, despite its growing global influence, reflects broader barriers to inclusion faced by countries like India. Jaishankar's remark brings attention to the fact that India, along with other emerging economies, seeks alternative platforms to amplify its voice on the global stage.
BRICS, which brings together provides a valuable forum for countries outside of Western-dominated institutions to advocate for reforms in global governance. The bloc focuses on promoting multilateralism, economic cooperation, and political alignment among developing nations. India's engagement in BRICS reflects its commitment to fostering a more inclusive international system, addressing economic disparities, and cooperating on issues ranging from development to global security.
Jaishankar’s comment also emphasizes India’s broader push for reform in global decision-making processes, ensuring that rising powers play a more prominent role in shaping the future of the international order.
